Preamble – My Mother’s Voice – Journal Series

If you haven’t already, please read the home page for further information.

This is the journal of my mother who was loved by many and who died in 1985. Her pen name was Gita and she wrote letters, journals, poems, short stories and articles. As far as I know, her writing is unpublished. Until now.

You are invited to accompany me on this process of discovery – from the time our family settled in Australia from India, until her death. I have only read a small proportion of my mother’s journals and hope to solve some mysteries in the process.

In this journal series, entries will be posted in chronological order from June 8th, 1969 until just prior to her death.

If you are new to this blog you can read the journal entries in date order via Archived.

Unfortunately, there are huge gaps of time between some of my mother’s journals. She used several different notebooks of varying size and shape accompanied by a folder of typed and handwritten sheets  and some loose sheets ripped out of a spiral notepad. In addition, some entries have the day and month but not the year. All of which means the job will be a challenging one, but I am up for the task.

Let us begin…

P.S. Sadly Johnny, the love of my mother’s life, passed away some 10 years later. He was a devoted father. I dedicate this journal series to both of them.

  1. I think it’s really neat that you were able to find old journal entries that your mother wrote so long ago. Preserving the family history even in little snippets like this is something I wish I could have from my grandparents – they never really told our family about their past before they immigrated to America.
